Ayurveda translates as the "Science of Life". Ayurveda is a mind-body, holistic system of health care that teaches us that when we understand our unique constitution (mind, body & emotion type) and align ourselves with natural rhythms and cycles of life, we can achieve optimal health. It teaches us that we each are a unique biological, psychological and social force and therefore each person's path toward health is unique. There are no broad strokes of 'good or bad' in Ayurveda. Ayurveda offers tools for assessment and understanding of our uniqueness, and it offers tools for action to personalize your health and healing practices.
Ayurveda answers questions of: Why does one person get up and 5am and run 10 miles and another needs three cups of coffee to form a sentence by 9am, Why one person can seem to eat anything and not gain weight and another struggles to lose weight no matter what diet, Why does one person sleep like a rock and another wakes frequently and into full conversations in their head and Why one person has a calm and steady mental and emotional disposition and another has an anxious or fiery disposition.
When working from an Ayurvedic perspective you will learn how food, movement, lifestyle and relationships have an impact on your alchemy (your unique mind-body chemistry). You will understand how what you consume (not just food, but what you hear, see, and interact with as well) effects your "dosha"- your unique mind, body & emotion type. You will understand how and why stress effects you the way it does and from Ayurveda strategies you will learn tools to develop resiliency and durability. Life, stress, relationships & consumption, can throw you out of balance and Ayurveda has the tools of awareness and the tools of action to help you establish balance, awaken your healing potential, and achieve optimal health.
